The Broken System of Work: Why We Must Rebel!

May 30, 2024

The proof that work is broken is simple:

  • Are you happy in your job?
  • Do you find meaning and purpose in what you do?
  • Do you care about what you produce each day?

(Ok, if your answer was the last one, you have a seriously broken relationship with work.)

The point of work is to earn money, and for many people (even the unemployed), work is about money. Yes, It’s how we’ve set things up, but work has deteriorated significantly over the last while!

As technologies accelerate change and redefine value creation and exchange, companies have become more stuck in response.

  • Bureaucracy is more stuck in its own bureaucracy.
  • The pursuit of power and status has replaced better work conditions.
  • The need to control through politics and stronger micromanagement has diminished the need for freedom and autonomy at work.

The world is shifting to a more decentralised way. Companies that adopt this approach can adapt and refine what’s working while eliminating what’s not.

This will create better value for the value creators, who will find deeper meaning in seeing their value consumed by others!

The resistance to change makes the need for a change rebellion stronger – and more important than ever before.

Companies need to be profitable and can become more profitable by finding better ways of working. If we focus on making the creation and exchange of value more important, giving people freedom, autonomy, and accountability to work in better ways, improve our work for the better!
